Could the first building blocks of life have originated in space?
It may seem far-fetched, but it's possible that some of the earliest components of life arrived on Earth in the form of a meteorite. Meteorites have been found to contain all five of the basic building blocks of DNA, according to recent research.
To be clear, DNA has not been discovered on an extraterrestrial rock. Rather, each of the five basic compounds that make up DNA and RNA, known as nucleobases, has been discovered in meteorite samples. Previously, only three of these nucleobases had been discovered on meteorites, but new research has revealed the remaining two.
