The SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Durgapur was caught in a storm, and passengers were injured.

 According to officials, the plane crashed into a storm while landing. According to sources, the passengers panicked, and cabin baggage fell on many of them, causing injuries, including to the head.

The aircraft arrived in Durgapur with immediate medical assistance, according to the spokesperson.

On Sunday evening, a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Durgapur in West Bengal encountered severe turbulence, injuring at least 40 passengers. Twelve of them sustained serious injuries and are now in stable condition.

"Aside from a member of the cabin crew, approximately 14 passengers were injured in the incident," said Arun Kumar, Director General of Civil Aviation. Several of them have head injuries and have had stitches. One passenger has also claimed to have suffered a spinal injury."

 

A SpiceJet spokesperson confirmed the incident on the 189-seater Boeing 737-800 plane. According to officials, the plane crashed into a storm while landing. According to sources, the passengers panicked, and cabin baggage fell on many of them, causing injuries including to the head.

According to Airports Authority sources, the plane carried 188 passengers. "Some passengers sustained head injuries and were rushed to the hospital." Doctors reported that they are now stable and out of danger."

"SpiceJet Boeing B737 aircraft operating flight SG-945 from Mumbai to Durgapur encountered severe turbulence during descent, which unfortunately resulted in injuries to a few passengers," SpiceJet said in a statement. Upon arrival in Durgapur, immediate medical assistance was provided."


The plane took off from Mumbai shortly after 5 p.m. on Sunday and was on its way to Durgapur's Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport after a two-hour flight when it encountered turbulence. At 7.15 p.m., it safely landed.


According to an Airports Authority official, an investigation will be conducted to determine how the flight became engulfed in the storm.
