PV Sindhu was defeated in three games by Japan's Akane Yamaguchi in the semi-finals of the Badminton Asia Championships on Saturday and had to settle for a bronze medal. The 26-year-old Indian Olympic medalist got off to a strong start but couldn't keep it up, falling 21-13, 19-21, 16-21 to top seed and world No. 2 Yamaguchi in a one-hour and six-minute match.
However, Sindhu's relationship with the chair umpire was strained, as the Indian felt she was the victim of an incorrect decision that affected the outcome of the match. Sindhu had won the first game 21-13 and was leading the second game 14-11 when the controversy erupted. It
