Ukraine and energy security are on the agenda as Prime Minister Modi departs on a three-nation European tour.

"Through my engagements, I intend to strengthen the spirit of cooperation with our European partners, who are important partners in India's quest for peace and prosperity," the Prime Minister stated.

Vinay Kwatra, India's foreign secretary, reiterated India's position on Ukraine ahead of Modi's departure, calling for a cessation of violence and a return to dialogue and diplomacy. Even as relations with Ukraine have strained due to India's unwillingness to openly condemn Russia's actions, Kwatra said there was "deep appreciation" for India's position.

"In terms of India's position on Ukraine, it has been amplified, clarified, and enunciated in great detail in multiple fora." And I'll just highlight a few key points. One, we have always advocated for a cessation of hostilities in Ukraine.

and two, the path to resolution is one of diplomacy and dialogue," said Kwatra, who took office earlier that day. "I have no doubt in my mind that our European partners are not only fully aware of our position, but they also have a deep appreciation for the government," he continued.

Modi stated that his visit to France will allow him to set the tone for the next phase of the India-France strategic partnership.

"President Macron and I will discuss various regional and global issues, as well as the status of ongoing bilateral cooperation." "I am convinced that two countries with such similar visions and values for the global order must work closely together," he says.
