Here are the most recent developments in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Around 100 civilians evacuated from the ruined Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol were due to arrive in a Ukrainian-held city on Monday, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, following a surprise visit to Kyiv by US Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

After failing to capture Kyiv in the early weeks of a war that has flattened cities, killed thousands of civilians, and forced more than 5 million people to flee the country, Russia's military has shifted its focus to Ukraine's south and east.

According to Reuters, the EU will propose a phased ban on Russian oil imports as part of a new round of sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

The conflict began to escalate on February 21, 2022, when Russian President Vladimir Putin recognised separatist regions in eastern Ukraine and deployed troops in a peacekeeping role.
